3 Ways to Deepen Your Meditation Practice and Unlock the Alpha State

3 Ways to Deepen Your Meditation Practice and Unlock the Alpha State Blog Graphic

Have you ever reached a point in your meditation practice where it feels like you're just going through the motions? …. And the profound session you once experienced seems distant, if not impossible?

I've been there, too.

In fact, there are periods of my life where I’ve avoided my meditation sessions altogether because it felt like I’m wasting my time. I got frustrated because I let my mind wander into anxious thoughts instead of finding the peace I needed.

If you can relate to this frustration, don’t stress. This guide is made for you to reconnect with your meditation practice so you can look forward to it each time.

There are three *GOLDEN* meditation techniques that will help you build confidence and reach the alpha brain wave state. Reaching the alpha state of mind is like magic for your brain – it promotes mental clarity, relaxation, and creativity. Allowing your brain to function at this frequency, you will be able to navigate your daily challenges with greater ease and grace.

It's all within your reach – so fill your basket with the goodies so you never have to be stuck going through the motions again.

Technique 1: Fall in Love with Body Scans

Ok – before you say, “I know what a body scan is”, just bear with me… this technique is the simplest and yet most critical. It’s like stretching before your big game, or having your supplements and morning tonic when you wake. It SETS the scene and gets your mind ready for what’s to come. By understanding the energetic blocks, tension, and emotion hidden beneath your skin, you will prime yourself for getting into alpha.

If you are a beginner and are not yet jaded (incorrectly, may I add) about body scans, please do yourself a favor and fall in love with this technique with sheer practice and persistence.

Relax every inch of your scalp, your masseter, your traps, all the way down to your calves, ankles and toes that help you grip and prance on this magical planet. As you progress from the crown to your toes, you'll notice that your mind, too, begins to unwind. It's like opening a gateway to tranquility.

The beauty of the body scan is that it's accessible to everyone, regardless of your level of meditation experience. It provides a tangible and grounding practice that serves as a strong foundation for more profound meditation sessions.

Technique 2: Meet Your Highest Self - The Power of Visualization

Visualization meditations are one of the BEST techniques out there. Visualizing my highest self was the first time I really FELT my meditations “working”…(p.s. they always work, you just gotta trust). The feeling is incredible and you must try one if you haven’t already. Imagine combining the pleasures of daydreaming, goal setting, manifesting, and having a heart-to-heart with your aspirational self who is gracious, loving, kind, healed in all the ways.

In all fairness, this technique can be challenging – especially in the beginning. We are not comfortable creating a new version of ourselves with our eyes closed. It’s scary and many times you may draw a blank or simply come out with only a feeling or clarity of what you don’t want to be. But the good thing, is that it’s not final, and every day that you visualize (the more minutia, the better), you can change.

When you tap into this powerful technique, you can manifest your dreams, seek guidance from your intuition, and gain insights to the existential questions that perplex you. It's a creative process that not only enhances your meditation but also empowers you to find inner clarity when you feel confused.

The takeaway: steep yourself in aspirational self.

Technique 3: Harnessing Binaural Beats

You know that stereotypical image of a yogi floating while meditating? Well, listening to these beats gave me that feeling. This is the most ‘woo-woo’ of the techniques but we like woo-woo around here, especially since I have experienced its power firsthand.

If you're looking for a more unconventional meditation experience, consider listening to a meditation that uses binaural beats. In essence, you hear two sound frequencies (one in each ear) that creates an auditory illusion in your mind of an entirely new frequency, which allows you to quickly immerse into a trance/meditative state of mind.

I recommend this technique if you know that you have an auditory learning style or if you have an affinity to music or listening to podcasts. The big kicker though, is that you must listen to such meditations with headphones. Each ear is supposed to hear a different frequency so it’s important that you listen with earbuds to get the best results.

Your ticket to alpha state of mind is granted!

You now are equipped with my three *golden* techniques: the grounding body scan meditation, the enlightening practice of meeting your highest self through visualization, and the adventurous world of binaural beats. Each offers a unique path towards unlocking the alpha state of mind.

As you embark on this journey to deepen your meditation practice, remember that it's not a race. Begin with one technique, see how it resonates with you, and then explore the others. The key is to keep going, keep showing up and remembering that ultimately:

your meditation practice is about achieving mental peace so you can be more present, creative, rested, and energized…. so, you can follow your dreams and easily handle the turbulences along the way.

Set up your space, light a candle (Warrior is our favorite for grounding!) and try the techniques out. Check out the exact meditations I use when I feel stuck and stagnant in my practice by downloading the FREE guide below

May your meditations be serene, creative and abundant so you can create more moments for what matters the most in your life.
